Sunset Family Session Coral Springs, FL October 2024

The SUBMISSION FORM:

This is where it all starts. I received a contact form from my website inquiring about a sunset family session to include her husband, kids and mother. I prayed my client was looking for a true sunset, the ones where the sun is setting behind us and the colors of the sky are one-of-a-kind!!

I immediately made contact with my prospective client to find out more! She used the words “this session is super special. I am turning 50 this year and my mom is turning 80.” This first conversation between us was through email, but because of the choice of words she used, I could feel the emotions and the connection she had with her mother. Wow, I knew I had to assure to make this shoot one of a kind for this family.

THE LOCATION:

My client was open to locations and asked for assistance with color schemes and outfits, her next words sunk in hard, she told me “I trust your vision from your previous work.”

I had to take a moment and read that again. I assured my client that that is what I was there for and that I would be there for every steps of the planning. I sent several photos of location choices and was thrilled that she chose my originally hope, the true sunset location in Coral Springs!

Even though this location only has 1 “backdrop” an open road and an open sky, I wanted to ease any worries my client had “that all the photos would look the same.” I explained to my client that we would meet 1 hour prior to the sunset. That we would get a variety of shots to include the sun at different positions and that as the sun dropped, it created a different sky every few minutes. My clients choose me because I offer 1-of-a-kind photos, Not a cookie cutter “presets” , so no two sessions are the same. Each sunset and sunrise session is tailored to my clients personality.

PICKING OUTFITS:

Weeks coming up to our session my client was on the hunt! She had a vision in her mind for her family photos and she was making sure I would bring it to life.

I personally don’t offer a client closet because there is a sense of accomplishment for my clients when they see their final images and they were the ones who put it all together. It is all part of the beautiful process.

Several style options were sent my way and although all of them were stunning, I took into consideration OUR sunset location, HER family expectations and what I know will photograph the BEST, and I expressed my favorites from the bunch.

I wanted my client to choose her own style, most people don’t understand that they need to wear something which “fits their style” not something “out of the box” that they would never wear again. Their comfort level will show through on photographs and I stress to them the importance of this.  My client ended up choosing an extraordinary flowy dress which had a ruffled texture and the most calming colors. I was ecstatic and immediately envisioned all the fun we were going to have to make her and her family shine that night!

THE MOMENT OF THE NIGHT!!

We arrived to our sunset location. The moment I saw my family, I was in love! I had to stop myself from telling them all how gorgeous they looked! My client did it, she accepted my feedback and she chose the best colors and outfits for everyone in the family! The weather was on my side and I was so enamored with the clouds! Clouds add contrast, flare, drama and the most amazing colors as the sun bounces off of them!

We start off with lots of movement, my clients are the most tense and nervous at the beginning of a shoot so I need to do what I can to get everyones individual personalities to shine through and wake up. Now is when I start to see who I can be silly with, who needs more direction and who is counting down the minutes until we are done (ha). It’s my challenge to get everyone on the same calm and content line. I play to everyone’s strengths so this way their photos reflect their true selves.

The youngest daughter had such a sassy vibe and I dug it! She definitely needed her own moments in these photos. The eldest son I knew was attending these photos to make his mom happy, they had the cutest bond that I could see with all the little smiles and eye contact catches.

But here it was, the MOMENT which to me, made the night!

A random woman walking the gravel, stopped and looked at my client and told her how beautiful she looked. Knowing how self conscious my client felt, as soon as I heard that comment, I looked over at my clients face and I could see the water building up in her eyes and the light fire up in her soul. Everything that I have been telling her was just validated by a stranger, who had no connection to her. It was that moment that I live for! The ones where all the prep comes together and I get to see the pure joy in someone’s face.

This was the moment I pulled mom aside and we had our own photo shoot! Her ruffled dress danced in the wind as the sun set behind her. The glow in her face was infectious! Now to bring her husband into the frame! The moments I stopped between these two, irreplaceable.

THE FINISH:

I know I’ve said it before but I truly have the most unforgettable clients. I feel my clients find me due to my style and being able to portray their family story, in snapshots. That’s my dream, to keep family moments and memories alive.
